Kigali, the Capital City

We went on a driving tour of the capital city of Rwanda, Kigali. First We had a fabulous breakfast at a café where I had a great egg and bacon croissant with potatoes and vegetables. I couldn't resist posting a picture of it--but not before I tasted it!
My first meal in Rwanda! A wonderful breakfast! And note my first coffee in 5 days in the background--also couldn't help myself from drinking it before the pic!

After breakfast, we headed off to see more of the city. Our first major spot was the Hotel des Milles Collines (Hotel of a Thousand Hills). It is the hotel that the movie Hotel Rwanda is set in, and many people sought refuge there during the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

After visiting the Hotel des Milles Collines, we made our way to the former military compound where the 10 Belgian peacekeepers were killed at the beginning of the genocide. Here is a memorial built in their honor; there are ten pillars representing the ten who were killed.

After visiting this memorial site and driving around a lot more of the city, we got to eat lunch at a wonderful buffet. After visiting a shopping center, we headed back to the house for an afternoon of rest and getting settled in. Tomorrow, here I come!
